They provide directly extractable products such as timber, fodder, fuel wood, food and many other non timber products in addition to indirect services in the form of contribution to biodiversity, nutrient cycling, and stability of the environment. Forests contribute 1.7 per cent of nation's gross domestic product (GDP).
