The vast human population coupled with ever proliferating cattle number needs progressively increasing amounts of food, fodder and fuel. Besides, there is a growing demand of raw material for various forest based industries. These problems combined together have created a huge void in supply and demand causing great concern for environmentalists and foresters. These circumstances have culminated in giving rise to the concept of social forestry and lead to its adoption in developing countries. Social forestry aims at raising large bel ts of areas covered with trees and shrubs endowed with nutritious green fodder, quality timber and fuelwood.
