Strawberry (Fragaria sp.) belongs to the family Hosaceae. Darrow (1949) stated that all cultivated varieties of strawberry are octaploid. It is herbaceous and perennial plant. It occupies significant place in fruit growing since it can be cultivated in plains as well as in the hills upto an elevation of 3,000 meters in humid or dry regions (Darrow and Waldo, 1934).
