Description |
Himalaya is the home of conifers and constitute one of the most divergent and economically important group of species, the most prominent being deodar (Cedrus deodara). Deodar is found throughout the western Himalaya from Afghanistan to Garhwal at elevation ranging from 1200 to 3050 m, being most common from 1800 to 2600 m. The total area under deodar forests is estimated at 2,03,263 ha (Jammu and Kashmir 1,13000 ha, Himachal Pradesh 69,872 ha and Uttranchal 20,391 ha).
