Description |
Due to genetic uniformity and loss of old landraces in wheat (Triticum aestiyum L. em Thell.), there is an urgent need to explore all kinds of related/alien ge∼etic materials available to the wheat breeder and devise methods for their successful incorporation into wheat. Of the various relatives of wheat, rye (Secale cereale L.) is particularly tantalizing because of its being a cultivated crop plant and development of its successful amphidiploid with wheat, known as triticale (x Triticosecale Wittmack).
