Description |
Apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) occupies a significant place in the horticultural wealth of Himachal pradesh. The apple industry of the state has registered an appreciable gro\vth during the last three decades. The area under this fruit has increased from 3,025 hectore in 1961 to 52,399 hectare in 1986-87 and production from 12,000 tonnes to 3,59,321 tonnes during the same period (Anonymous, 1988). However, the overall production per unit area is much less as compared to the leading apple growing countries of the world, so there is great scope for increasing production.
