In the last twenty years, the flowers of various commercial hybrids of species of the genus Alstroemeria, commonly known as Alstroemeria, Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, have become an important part of the commercial cut flower trade. The genus is a rhizomatous monocot belonging to family Alstroemeriaceae. It is an important cut flower of Dutch as well as international markets and occupies position within top 10 cut flowers. Alstroemeria is still a relatively new product in the world market and interest in it is continually growing. This growth is because, crop is easy to cultivate and does not have any special demands. The flowers are beautiful and have a very long vase life.
