Potassium is one of the most important major nutrient elements required by the plants for optimum growth and production. Its role for the synthesis and translocation of photosynthates, regulation of stomates and activation of pyruvate kinase, starch synthase and 6-phosphofructokinase enzymes is well established, besides being of utmost importance for the water status of the plants. It is also associated with the quality of fruits and imparts resistance to diseases.
