Description |
In areas following rice-wheat rotation, the soil profile, however, is wet at harvest of rice. Immediately thereafter soil starts losing moisture with the result that the seed-zone gets desiccated by the time wheat is to be sown. Lower layers continue to remain wet and do not replenish the moisture loss at the soil surface owing to poor hydraulic conductivity (Chenkual and Acharya, 1990).
