Description |
French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) an important legume is extensively grown all over the world for consumption either as fresh, processed vegetable or as a pulse crop. It is also known as Dwarf bean, Kidney bean, Common bean etc. and locally called as Rajmash. It is cultivated nearly on an area of about 26.7 million hectares with an annual dry seed production of 17.6 million metric tonnes in the world. The total area under this crop in India is nearly 9.8 million hectares with an annual production of 4 million tonnes (Anonymous, 1992 a).
