Wheat, maize, rice and barley occupy more than 80 per cent of the total cropped area in Himachal Pradesh. Research efforts in the past have been to maximize the productivity of these crops. However, modeling of growth, development and yield of these crops through computer simulation are lacking. Simulation models have several applications, among which yield forecasting and working out simulation-guided management practices under different agroclimatic and resource situations are of practical significance.
