Description |
Agricultural land management in the past especially after mid sixtees has stressed the soil system, often withdrawing more than what was returned. The land area under agriculture is shrinking in India while demand for food is increasing. The per capita availability of cultivable land is expected to reduce to about 0.14 ha by 2025 from the present level of about 0.17 ha (Singh, 1999). The projected doubling of the human population in the next century threatens even greater degradation of soils and other natural resources (Mishra, 2005).
