Description |
Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is believed to be a native of Europe and West Asia while its wild prototype comes from Ethiopia (de Candolle, 1886). Peas contain high percentage of digestible proteins, carbohydrates, sugars, minerals and vitamins (Cherian et al., 1955). As a processed vegetable, pea ranks next only to tomatoes as a frozen food (Talbert, 1953). In India peas are consumed both Asa fresh vegetable (unripe pods) and as dry seeds (pulses).
