Description |
The realization of full yield potential and quality of high yielding varieties of wheat by the adoption of modern agricultural practices is largely offset due to their increased susceptibility to diseases especially Karnal bunt in the North-Western parts of India. Karnal bunt of wheat caused by Neovossia indica (Mitra) Mundkur is a floret infecting disease and is known to infect bread wheat (Mitra, 1931), durum wheat and triticale (Agarwal et al., 1977). Apart from decreasing yield, it reduces the palatability of bread and chapatis, etc, due to fishy odour and perceptible discolouration (Medhi et al., 1973; Medina, 1985).
