Description |
India is predominantly an agricultural country with a gigantic livestock population of over 460 m, which is geometrically increasing at an alarming rate of 1.95 per cent per annum. The livestock population constitutes an integral and necessary component of our rural economy. Inspite of the fact that India has the largest livestock population of the world, the production in respect of meat, milk and wool etc. falls too short of the country's requirement (Anonymous, 1977). The principal cause of this low production is the huge deficit ill tile availability of palatable and nutritious green fodder round the year (Debroy et al., 1980).
