Description |
Garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) is one of the most important vegetable crops grown the world over. Garden peas are priced, because of their taste and nutritive value. These contain a high percentage of digestible protein, sugars, minerals and vitamin A, B and C (Cherian et al., 1955). As a processed vegetable peas rank next only to tomatoes, but it is a leading vegetable as a frozen food (Talbert, 1953). Pea is believed to be native of Europe and West Asia, while its wild prototypes came from Ethiopia (DeCandolle, 1886).
