Among stone fruits, plum (Prunus salicina) is the most important fruit crop of the temperate regions. In India, it is predominantly grown in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, hills of Uttar Pradesh in the north and Nilgiris and Kodaikanal in the south. Plums grown in Himachal Pradesh belong mainly to the salicina group in which 'Santa Rosa' is the most important table variety.
