Description |
Yield increases brought about by phosphorus application are widespread, significant and economically attractive. In Himachal Pradesh, ten out of twelve districts are medium in P fertility ratings. Out of the remaining two districts, one is low and the other rates high (Gosh and Hasan, 1979). P fertilizer management in acid soils assumes considerable significance as most of the applied phosphorus becomes unavailable to the crop plants. The acid soils of Himachal Pradesh which have been classified as alfisols typic haptudulf that occupy around 25-30 per cent of the total cultivable area. These soils have been developed under the high rainfall and low temperature conditions.
