Description |
Rapeseed and mustard are important oilseed crops covering an area of 6.0 million hectares with total production of 6.0 million tonnes and average production of 1000 kg/hectare in the country (Anand and Sharma, 1993). In Himachal Pradesh area under these crops is 9.2 thousand hectares with total production of 2.8 thousand tonnes and an average production of 304 kg/hectare (Anonymous, 1994). Insect-pests are one of the major factors responsible for low yields in rapeseed and mustard crops. Further the increased intensity of cultivation coupled with diversification and introduction of new crops has accentuated the severity of insect pests on rapeseed and mustard.
