Description |
Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L), is a member of family Cruciferae. The crop is native to Asia Minor (De Candolle, 1883), but rich diversity exists in Western Europe. It is one of the most important vegetables of the world due to its pleasant taste, delicious flavour and nutritive value. It is consumed as salad, boiled or cooked in curries, pickled as well as dehydrated. Nutritionally, it is rich in minerals (phosphorus, potassium, calcium and iron), proteins and vitamin-C (Munger, 1988).
