Description Gastric ulceration and erosion (GUE) is a well recognized disease syndrome in dogs and other animals which develops in miscellaneous disease processes. The various predisposing factors for GUE are administration of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids, stress, race training, obstruction in gastric emptying, gastro-intestinal disease, various kinds of tumours, hypoproteinemia, malnutrition and organ failure etc. (Stanton and Bright, 1989 A&B; Murray, 1991). However, lesions can also develop without association to these factors (Clark et al., 1996). All these factors alter the intricate natural balance between gastric aggressive and protective mechanisms leading to the exposure of gastric mucosa to its own gastric acid and enzymes resulting into variable degree of damages.
