Description |
Himachal Pradesh, a hilly state situated in North-Western Himalayan region, reveals a wide history of plant forms of the European, Tibetan, Malaysian, Mongolian and Siberian origin in its subtropical, temperate alpine and cold desert climatic regions (Chauhan and Thakur, 1995). This state is capable of producing most of the important plants used both in modern and traditional systems of medicine due to wide variations in climate, soil, altitude and latitude. Out of 3500 known plant species there are about 500 medicinal, 150 aromatic and quite a good number of potent alternatives and substitute drugs of plant origin that are being harnessed at present (Chauhan, 1995).
