Description |
Consistent high yields and prolonged fruitfulness are influenced by an optimum supply of nutrients to the trees. Nitrogen has long been considered a dominating nutrient element affecting growth, development and productivity of trees. Temperate fruits - apple, peach, plum and apricot are largely grown in the hills on sloping rainfed soils, which poses perennial problems of fertilization. The soil application of fertilizers is made with in the tree basins, which are usually small and rarely correspond to the spread of the trees, whereas, the remaining floor is maintained under perennial grasses.
