Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L) is a member of family Caryophyllaceae and a native of Mediterranean area (Dole and Wilkins, 1999). This flower is one of the world's most popular and economic cut flowers due to its keeping quality, wide range of forms, colors and ability to withstand long distance transportation. Carnation is a new introduction to India and with the boom in cut flower industry, its cultivation began in the country targeting the export market along with roses (Tejaswani and Dhananjaya, 2007).
