Description |
Apple is the most important temperate fruit crop of the North Western Indian Himalayan region. Indian Himalayas cover an area of 53 million hectares which is approximately 14 per cent of the total geographical area. The commercial cultivation of apple is largely confined to the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand which together account for 99 per cent of the total production. The remaining is contributed by the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
