Description Phosphorus nutrition of plants has rightly been regarded as the "Key to human hunger" because of its pivotal role in the normal growth, establishment of root system, seed formation and hastening of crop maturity, besides being an essential constituent of nucleic acid. The need for phosphorus in our country is much more felt because 98 per cent of our cultivated soils fall under low to medium categories with respect to available soil phosphorus (Subramanian, 1986).
