Description India is predomina∼tly an agricultural country and has the largest cattle population in the world but the production in respect of meat, milk and wool etc., falls too short of the country's requirement (Anonymous, 1977). The principal cause of this low production is the huge deficit in the availability of palatable and nutritious green fodder round the year (0ebroy et al., 1980). This gap can be filled by increasing the cultivation of superior green fodder, good quality grasses and nutritious but palatable tree forage. The leaf fodder from trees and shrubs is as nutritious as that of leguminous fodder crops (Negi et al., 1979 and Singh, 1982). This fodder resource in hills is of paramount importance during winter months when grasses are either grazec or become dry with poor digestibility.
