Description |
Water, climate and soils are the three basic resources of nature which Influence the agricultural development and thus the mankind. Under a given set of climatic conditions, crop production Is restricted by the availability of nutrients and water. The competing demands of water for domestic use, sanitation, Industrial and recreational purposes and above all for agriculture make an overriding demand on this limited life-support system. An efficient utilization of this resource is most essential for optimum production of food, fibre, feed and raw material, since almost 90 per cent of the water demand in India Is for Agriculture (Chaturvedl, 1939).
