Increase in food grain production is the basis to food security of a nation. This assumes significance especially in developing countries like India where human population is growing unabated. The world population continues to expand at an alarming rate and so is the Indian population. As a consequence, by 2020, we would have 1340-1400 million mouths to feed. requiring approximately 300 million tonnes of food grains.
