Description With a growing consumer demand, liberalization of food trade and agricultural production at the focal point of the economies of most of the developing countries, there has been a growing awareness towards increased safety to environment and public health. Further, there has been a dynamic and paradigm shift in the demand on the knowledge associated with pesticide residues mainly due to the changed requirements to satisfy the quality parameters underlined by World Trade Organisation (WTO) and International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) - Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) guidelines of the Government of India. Today, the excessive use of pesticides on vegetables is posing a risk to environment, human beings and non- target organisms, besides deteriorating the quality parameters of the produce.
