Description |
The morel (Morchella esculenta Fr. and related species) has been a edible mushroom of choice since long in many countries. Ascocarps which are available in the market are collected from the wild and sold at Rs. 4000- 5000 per kg. It occurs in the forests at altitudinal ranges between 1800 m to 3600 m. The morels are expensive because of their low availability and rich nutritional value coupled with a unique flavour (Prasad eta/., 2002).
