Description |
Maize+soybean-gobhi sarson cropping system is one of the remunerative cropping system which includes legumes and oil seeds and is being followed by most of the farmers in Himachal Pradesh. In India, maize and soybean occupies 0.7 million hectare and 5812 thousand hectare area with production of 1.48 million tonnes and 5404 thousand tonnes, respectively. Whereas, in Himachal Pradesh area under maize and soybean is 301.2 thousand hectare and 0.6 thousand hectares with a production of 768.2 and 0.2 thousand tones, respectively (Anonymous, 2002-03). While the average productivity of maize in Himachal Pradesh is higher (2272 kg/ha) than the average productivity (1760 kg/ha) at national level, the average productivity of soybean in Himachal Pradesh (333 kg/ha) is less than national average (931 kg/ha).
