Apple (Malus domestica Bork.) is the major temperate fruit receiving attention for expanding cultivation in Hill temperate zones of the country. The apple cultivation has gone up in geometrical progression in Himachal pradesh in the past two decades and it could well be regarded as "Apple State of India". Apple alone has occupied about 45,360 out of a total 1,00084 hectares under fruit cultivation (Rana et al., 1983).
