Rice is an important food crop of Himachal Pradesh grown over 93,000 hectare with over all production of 104,00 tonnes per year (Anonymous, 1980-81). The average yield per hectare is 1106 kg against the national average of 1340 kg per hectare. About 65 per cent of the total area under rice is in Kangra and Nandi districts.
