The plant-animal-man food chain, characteristics of the developed nations, is not easy to achieve in developing countries because of high cost per unit of protein or other nutrients vis-a-vis direct consumption of plant products. Indeed, as the human population increases, it may become all the more difficult to depend on animal food.
