In rice, which is an important crop of Himachal Pradesh (92,000 ha, 96,000 tonnes production @ 1.04 t/ha), fertility and weed management are the most important agronomic practices that limit the yield per unit area. In this state use of N fertilizer is very low (15.1 kg/ha) as against 106.9 kg/ha in Punjab and 30.2 kg/ha national average.
