Although, it is grown in 62 countries of the world over an area of 5685.29 thousand hectares with the production and productivity of 60896 thousand metric tonnes and 11.06 tonnes/hectare, respectively (Jindal and Gautam, 200Z-), but its major production comes from United States of America, United Kingdom, China, India, Turky, Poland, Newzealand, Netherland, France, Iran etc.
