Description |
Zantedeschia also known as calla lily, Arum lily, Richardia, Lily of the Nile, is a monocot belonging to family Araceae. Species and hybrids of Zantedeschia spreng sp. are now established worldwide as a potted flowering plant and cut flower (Funnell, 1993, Kuehny, 2000). Zantedeschia was the second largest export earner of cut flowers for New Zealand (NZ) after orchids {Cymbidium swartz sp.) in 2001 (Palmer, 2001), representing 20 percent (US$4.5 million) of export earnings from all cut flowers. Increasing international demand for Zantedeschia tubers throughout the year has resulted in demand for plant material.
