Description |
The latin word succus means juice. Plants, some of whose parts, i.e. stems, branches and leaves, stalks, flower tubes, flowers and sometimes roots, are juicy, fleshy or thick are termed succulent or thick-leaved plants. Succulence is a morphological term. Succulent plants may occur in widely varied plant families and one family may have only a few succulents. Succulent plants are not only exotic but are to be found also on the European continent, e.g. the well-known Sempervivum and Sedum which are popular house and garden plants. Succulence does not indicate any form of relationship between plants.
