Description In India about 175 million hectares of the geographical area is subjected to various processes of land degradation, leading to occurrence of wastelands. The bouldery riverbed lands occupy about one-third of the land area in Doon valley of north-western India. The fertile lands adjoining seasonal streams arc getting eroded every year due to torrential rains, resulting in emergence of sand and gravels along the riverbed.
