The agriculture sector is the main source of employment and income in the economy of Nepal. Export revenue is also largely dependent on raw materials from the agroforestry sector. According to the latest Economic Survey, conducted by the Ministry of Finance of His Majesty's Government (1986/87), agriculture produced 59.5 per cent of the GDP in 1985/86 and contributed more than 60 per cent of the total export earnings.
