Description |
Parasitism is a type of symbiotic association in which one member of the association lives at the cost of other member. To accommodate to the host‘s bodily environment the parasite undertakes different morphological, physiological, metabolic and genomic modifications. Parasites occupy different domains of life, like Bacteria e.g E.coli, Bartonella sp, Borrelia sp, Haemophilus influenzae etc., Protista like Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Plasmodium falciparum, Trypanosoma sp, Leishmania sp etc. and helminthes like Taenia solium, Ascaris lumbricoids, Wucheria bancrofti etc. The parasites may be benign (harmless) or pathogenic (disease-causing). Majority of the protozoan parasites are pathogenic and very much challenging in the crisis of their eradication because many new potential drugs and vaccines are required to be developed to fight against these parasites (de Vries and Dien, 1996; Rowland et al., 2003; El-Ansary et al., 2005; Mangoni et al., 2005;), as these parasites develop drug resistance (Borst and Ouellette, 1995; Canduri et al., 2007) and adapt unique strategy to escape the immune vigilance of the host body. |
