Description The white-cap mushroom Termitomyces clypeatus (Heim), locally called ‘Durga Chatu’ bears its scientific recognition to the division Basidiomycete (Family Agaricaceae). The fungus has been exploited in our laboratory from time to time for the study of different industrially important enzymes with special reference to its ligno-cellulolytic enzyme system. Some general
studies that involved the investigation on the production of extracellular carbohydrases by mushrooms including T. clypeatus were also carried out in this laboratory (Ghosh and Sengupta 1982a) including the study on the saccharification of untreated agrowastes during the mycelial growth of the mushroom on solid beds (Sengupta et al 1983). Another study on the multisubstrate
specificity of amylase from the mushroom T. clypeatus was also performed by Ghosh and Sengupta (1987). Later, an efficient method for the determination of endoxylanase activity with ocarboxymethyl xylan was also developed in our laboratory (Khowala et al 1988).
