Description The rapid exhaustion of fossil fuel resources has created an alarming situation before the present civilization. The most potential option to overcome the crisis is to depend on renewable forms of energy. The cellulosic biomass, being spontaneously generated by photosynthesis, is undoubtedly the best choice (Riley et al., 1934). Present day agriculture and agro-industries are recurrently accumulating huge stock of lignocellulosic waste products like e.g. crop residues, timber and logging waste, waste paper, domestic refuse etc (Humphrey et al., 1975). However, unlock of these vast reserves of energy is dependent on suitable technologies to be developed. The enzymatic hydrolysis is playing a vital role for the conversion of agro-polysaccharides into monosaccharides, which could be used as raw materials for chemical industries (Tsao et al., 1983). Moreover, microorganisms synthesizing those enzymes have also found additional application in paper, food processing, pharmaceutical, textile industries. Thus, the commercial production of the enzyme is a highly desired in biotechnology of present and future days.
