Description |
India is endowed with an enviable wealth of medicinal plants with profound knowledge of their traditional use in the indigenous system of medicine, Ayurveda. This country is well known for its rich biodiversity and has been called the medicinal garden of the world. Plants have been utilized as medicines for thousands of years. However, recent years have witnessed a resurgence of interest in traditional system of medicines and plant derived drugs all over the world. According to WHO, a significant percent of the world’s population in developing countries, still depend on plants for their primary health care due to the poverty and lack of access to modern medicine, and also because modern medicines cost more. Even today, in developed country like USA, plant drugs constitute approximately 25 percent or more of all the prescribed medicines. |
