Description |
The present investigations entitled “Response of various N and P combinations in ratoon crop of Banana (Musa Spp. AAA) cv. Grand Naine” were conducted in the New orchard of the Department of Horticulture, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during the year 2008. In banana ratoon crop two main treatments of phosphorus viz., 60 and 90 g P2O5 and six sub treatments of nitrogen viz., 150, 200, 250, 300 g per plant in 5 split doses and 200, 250 g in 4 split doses were given and the data on vegetative and fruit characters was recorded. Application of 200 g N in 5 split doses and 60 g P2O5 per plant (in the month of May) was found to be the best among all other treatment combinations, which resulted in the maximum plant growth, early shooting and fruit maturity. Yield characters like bunch weight, hand weight, number of fingers per hand and finger length was maximum with the above said treatment. Leaf nitrogen content increased with increase in application of N dose and it was maximum (3.00 %) with 300 g N per plant. Similarly, the mean leaf P content ranged from 0.78 to 0.92 per cent with the application of 60 to 90 g P2O5. Leaf K content also improved by increasing nitrogen application. TSS and fruit acid content was also marginally affected by different nitrogen levels from 150-300g N per plant
