Description T-8694
The present investigation was carried out at CPCT farm IARI, New Delhi during summer season of 2012 under insect proof net house and open field conditions. The seed parent and pollen parent were grown in 3:1 ratio in block method under insect proof net house and open field conditions equipped with drip fertigation system. Significantly higher number of leaves and leaf area at 20,40 and 60 days after transplanting (DAT) were recorded in seed parent and pollen parent under insect proof net house in comparison to open field. The time taken to opening of first female and male flower in seed parent and pollen parent (46.80 days & 44.10 days, respectively) was significantly lower under insect proof net house. The production of female (2.80 per plant) and male flowers (23.80 per plant) was significantly higher under insect proof net house compared to open field crop. The number of fruit set (2.40) and matured fruit (1.90) per plant was significantly higher under insect proof net house than open field (1.40 &1.10, respectively). The overall percentage of fruit set and duration of fruit set under insect proof net house was significantly higher than the open field grown seed crop. The incidence of virus was negligible under insect proof net house, whereas 60% plants were affected with virus at maturity under open field conditions.
