A field study was conducted at IARI during the summer season of 2011 to find out the suitable irrigation method and irrigation regime in summer mung bean. The treatment consisted of three irrigation methods i.e. drip, furrow irrigated raised bed (FIRB) and check basin(CB) and irrigation regimes i.e. 100% ETc, 75% ETc and 60% ETc. Total water applied was 234 mm, 175.5 mm, and 140.4 mm in irrigation at 100% ETc, 75% ETc and 60% ETc, respectively, with the effective rainfall of 11.36 mm. The magnitude of vegetative growth of plants such as plant height, number of leaves per plant, no of branches per plant, total plant dry weight, leaf area index, crop growth rate at 30 and 45 days after sowing (DAS) and at harvest stage was significantly higher in drip irrigation method over that produced in FIRB and check basin irrigation method. The root length and root dry weight were significantly higher in check basin method of irrigation as compared to FIRB and drip. All plant parameters eg. plant height, number of leaves per plant, no of branches per plant, total plant dry weight, leaf area index, crop growth rate at 30 and 45 days after sowing (DAS) and at harvest stage were significantly higher when irrigation was given based on 100 % ETc and it was compared with 75% ETc and 60% ETc. whereas root length and root dry weight was significantly higher at 60% ETc. The maximum plant height, number of leaves per plant, no of branches per plant, total plant dry weight, leaf area index, crop growth rate and relative growth rate were observed under drip irrigation and at 100% ETc whereas the maximum root length and root dry weight was recorded under check basin irrigation and at 60% ETc . The yield attributes (number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, pod length, 1000-grain weight) were recorded highest under drip irrigation with 100% ETc. Similar results were observed in terms of crop yield (grain yield, straw yield and harvest index). Interaction effects indicated the combination of irrigations by drip method and irrigation regimes at 100% ETc found to be superior over other treatment combinations. |
