Twenty Schiff bases, 4-(Benzylideneamino)-3-mercapto-5-pyridin-2-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazoles, derived from picolinic acid, were screened for their anti-nemic activity under laboratory conditions for a period of 72 h. The compounds were tested at five different doses along with reference nematicide, Triazophos, TRIUMPH® (40% EC) against important plant pathogenic nematodes, Meloidogyne incognita and Rotylenchulus reniformis. Significantly high anti-nemic activities were observed with many of the title compounds. Among all the synthesized compounds, 4-(4-Methoxybenzylidenamino)-3-mercapto-5-pyridin-2-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazole (GM13) exhibited the highest nematicidal activity (LC50=218 ppm, M. incognita and 174 ppm, R. reniformis), comparable to triazophos.. The other potent compounds that emerged from the series were 4-(3-Methylbenzylidenamino)-3-mercapto-5-pyridin-2-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazole (GM9) 4-(2-Methoxybenzylidenamino)-3-mercapto-5-pyridin-2-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazole (GM11) and 4-(3-Methoxybenzylidenamino)-3-mercapto-5-pyridin-2-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazole (GM12). |
