Description T-8613
Thirty five genetically diverse bread wheat genotypes were evaluated in
three environments viz., Non Stress (E1, 10th Nov), heat stress (E2, 10th Dec), high
heat stress (E3, 10th Jan) for grain yield and physiological traits related to thermal
heat tolerance . Based on desirable per se performance for grain yield under both the
environments 13 genotypes viz., HD 2967, HD 2997, HD 2932, HD 2733, HD
2864, CL 3125, CL 3118, PBW 590, CL 3190, DBW 17, CL 3178, HD 2643 and
CL 3104 showed the consistence performance. Genotypic performance varied
substantially over the non- stress and stress environments. The reduction in
performance when sown under heat stress conditions from that of non-stress
conditions was worked out and expressed in term of heat susceptibility index.
Twelve genotypes viz., HD 2733, CL 3125, HD 2189, C 306, DBW 14, WR 544,
PBW 373, HD 2932, Kundan, HD 2967, HD 2997 and L 512 showed least HSI for
grain yield ranging 0.1 to 0.5. These genotypes also showed least HSI for other
associated yield and physiological characters and hence emerged out as terminal
heat tolerant genotypes. Different genotypes possessed various physiological
mechanisms to coupe up the effect of heat stress hence, providing ample
opportunities to breeder to combine them together in developing the heat tolerant
genotypes.
